Low-Tox Liquid Laundry Detergent: A Ritual for an Aligned Home
Your home holds your energy. Every surface, every fabric, every scent quietly shapes how you feel day to day. So when you shift something as ordinary as laundry into a conscious, low-tox practice, you’re not just cleaning clothes — you’re tending to the energetic field of your space.
Making your own liquid detergent is a simple, grounding act of intuitive living. It invites you to choose what enters your home, your body, and your daily rhythm with intention.
🌿 Why This Matters (Energetically Too)
Conventional detergents often carry heavy synthetic fragrances and chemicals that can overwhelm sensitive systems — physically and energetically.
A low-tox alternative supports:
A calmer, clearer home environment
Reduced chemical load on the body
Fabrics that feel softer and more natural
Greater harmony for sensitive or intuitive people
A sense of empowerment and alignment
Think of it as washing away not just dirt, but stagnant energy — returning your clothing to a neutral, supportive baseline.
I made a large batch — about 20 litres — in one go and stored it in a 25L wide-mouth water container with a tap (from Bunnings… which, let’s be honest, is a dangerous place to wander into unsupervised 😄). It means I only need to make it every few months, it lasts ages, and the tap makes it incredibly easy to use — no heavy lifting or messy pouring required.
🧺 Simple Ingredients
Ingredients
1 whole bar of grated pure soap (Castile or natural laundry soap)
1-2 cups washing soda
½ cup borax (I didn’t use this as I didn’t feel like it was necessary for us as we dont have heavily soiled clothing to wash. So it is optional)
Water Soluble Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Oil & Lavender (I use these as they create a clean, fresh smell and they disinfect the clothes)
10–15 drops essential oils (optional - I find with using the water solubles above these can get lost in the scents. So Muscle Test to see how much to put in)
4 litres hot water
Equipment
Large pot
Spoon
Large jar or container
Choose ingredients you feel good about — this alone shifts the energy of the finished product.
🌿 How To Make It
Heat 4 litres of water (hot, not boiling).
Add grated soap and stir until dissolved.
Stir in washing soda (and borax if using) and stir until dissolved.
Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Into your container pour approx. 5 litres of cold water in first then pour in your soap mixture.
Pour in your desired amount of water solubles (I poured in half of each bottle to being with and adjusted from there).
Fill up the rest of your container with cold water.
As it cools, it may thicken — simply stir before use.
🧼 How To Use
Use about ¼–½ cup per load
Shake before pouring
Suitable for front or top loaders
You can add white vinegar to the softener compartment for naturally soft, fresh-feeling fabrics.
🌸 A Gentle Shift, A Powerful Ripple
Low-tox living isn’t about perfection. It’s about alignment — making small choices that feel true, supportive, and nourishing.
Every time you choose a cleaner, kinder option, you’re sending a quiet message to your body and your space:
✨ I care for what surrounds me.
✨ I create safety and harmony here.
✨ My home supports my radiance.
Because a grounded life isn’t built only in big moments — it’s woven through the ordinary ones.
And sometimes, it starts with a load of washing. 🌿
